Job Description:

Position Summary:

Provides support to the unit staff. Assists in data collection, quality improvement activities, required reporting, process improvement, and patient experience programs and projects.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)

* Demonstrates ability to put together and copy patient charts.

* Demonstrates and verbalizes understanding of observation levels for patients and requirements for observing patients on LOS or 1:1. Completes the close observation form with the preceptor.

* Demonstrates understanding of how to place orders and restocks all supplies for units and exam rooms. Demonstrates ability to log into the forms ordering portal and well as Henry Schein when ordering supplies.

* Demonstrates ability to be organized and keep the nursing station in order, free from clutter.

* Demonstrates ability to arrange transport for patients (ie: calls the requested ambulance service), based on the RN instructions.

* Demonstrates ability to organize and complete the demographic information on the transfer paperwork and gets the physician to complete their section; makes copies of the chart to go with the patient. (MOT)

* Demonstrates ability to coordinate admissions by collecting appropriate information, making timely phone calls to theu nit RN and house supervisor for bed assignment and getting that information to registration for an admit packet.

* Demonstrates ability to perform patient safety checks at scheduled times, document appropriately.

* Demonstrates process and how to handle patient belongings left behind and how to coordinate the patient obtaining their belongings.

* Demonstrates ability to prepare patient welcome folders

* Demonstrates ability to assist the RN with discharge charts/records.

* Demonstrates ability to complete chart audits.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety (15% of performance review)

* Reports near misses, as well as errors and accidents promptly.

* Corrects minor safety hazards.

* Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.

* Participates in quality projects, as assigned, and supports quality initiatives.

* Builds collaborative relationships with patients, families, staff, and physicians.

* The ability to retrieve, communicate, and present data and information both verbally and in writing as required

* Demonstrates listening skills and the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word.

* Demonstrates adequate skills in all forms of communication.

Integrity (15% of performance review)

* Supports and demonstrates fiscal responsibility through supply usage, ordering of supplies, and conservation of facility resources.

* Completes required trainings within defined time periods, as established by job description, policies, or hospital leadership

* Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information, following HIPAA and other privacy laws.

* Ensures proper documentation in all position activities, following federal and state guidelines.

Qualifications

Education

* Required: High school diploma or GED. CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.

* Preferred: Some college level courses

* Maintains education and development appropriate for position.

* May substitute experience for education

Experience

* Required: Previous clerical experience.

* May substitute education for experience
