Position Summary:The Unit Secretary plays a critical role in coordinating patient activities between the nursing unit and internal departments. Under the direct supervision of the RN Charge Nurse, this position ensures smooth operations by maintaining and organizing patient medical records, transcribing medical orders accurately, and managing unit equipment and supplies. As a key team member, the Unit Secretary contributes to the efficiency and quality of patient care through professional and organized support.Position Highlights:

Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison between the nursing unit and other internal departments to ensure efficient communication and workflow.
- Maintain and organize patient medical records and nursing unit activity files for quick and accurate access.
- Transcribe medical orders with precision and in compliance with regulations.
- Monitor and maintain unit equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness and availability.
- Provide administrative and clerical support to the nursing team, enhancing unit operations.
Compensation: Starting pay begins at $15.50 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.Position Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience:
- Clerical experience preferred, ideally in a healthcare setting.
- Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (required upon hire).
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification is required within one year of hire.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology.
- Proficiency in computer use, including data entry and record-keeping.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Exceptional communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, position, push, pull, and transfer up to 50 pounds or more.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking with occasional bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
- Near acuity for clear vision within 20 inches to perform detailed tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to potential hazards, including bloodborne pathogens and odorous chemicals.
- Irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Continuous standing or sitting for extended periods, exceeding 8 hours per shift.
