Job Description
Essential Functions
Creates a positive image of the nursing unit by greeting patients and visitors and answering phones and call lights timely and pleasantly.
Communicates messages and information to appropriate staff and department.
Orders supplies.
Assists staff in serving the needs of families and patients where appropriate.
Aids the director in keeping the unit and materials well organized.
Follows the MUSC Standards of Behaviors.
Performs miscellaneous and other related duties as assigned.
Continuously monitors arrhythmias and notifies staff of changes.
Accurately documents rhythm strips according to unit specifications.
Accurately measures and interprets cardiac rhythms.
Enters patient information and data into the telemetry/computer system.
Communicates rhythm interpretations to nursing staff and providers.
Has access to minimal risk medications contained in kits, trays or packs associated with certain procedures, as well as IV fluids stored in patient care areas and automated dispensing units.
Additional Job Description
Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language. High school diploma or GED required. One year office experience with customer contact preferred in a hospital or medical setting. Basic computer skills are helpful. Successful completion of medical terminology must be obtained within one year.
Certification as an EKG technician or successful completion of a telemetry program from another facility or Patient Care Technician with EKG certification required or 1 year experience or completion of our basic arrythmia within 6 months. Previous experience as a monitor technician preferred but not required.
