Job Description:
Job SummaryThis position works under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in dealing with critically ill and stable patients in the Critical Care Department. Will provide indirect patient observation and care services in accordance with the initial plan of care, as directed and provide support to the patient care team .This position is accountable and responsible for having good public relations, providing information, directions, and any other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors; performing general secretarial, receptionist and clerical duties such as performing patient registration, scheduling, coding, preparing patient charts, billing, preparing correspondence in final form, and assisting in keeping a safe environment by communicating patient needs to the nursing staff. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Completion of medical terminology course.
  • One-year accumulated work experience in a clerical, healthcare or customer service position.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
  • Developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office, telephone system and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • A high degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • The ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.
Working Conditions
  • Typical office and hospital/out patient environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work maybe subject to interruptions.
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours, holidays, evenings and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material.
  • Works with protected health information.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment
  • Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Repetitive wrist, finger and hand movement.
  • Occasional manipulation of large volumes of books, charts, reports or files.
  • Lifting supplies or equipment.
  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Operates standard equipment found in patient rooms.
  • Visually observes patients and responds to their verbal and non-verbal communications.
