Position Title University Police Officer I Job Type Staff Position Information
Under direct supervision, participates in formal and on-the-job training programs to achieve and maintain the Maryland Police Training Commission and institutional requirements. Performs the duties of an entry level Police Officer.
Responsibilities
* Patrols designated areas by vehicle and foot to identify and report safety hazards, detect violations of laws and ordinances, and identify wanted vehicles, persons, and unusual conditions.
* Responds to calls for assistance and emergency service.
* Assists in apprehending, detaining, and processing violators.
* Interacts with the campus community and establishes rapport with the public
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Classification 23-0000 Legal Occupations Required Qualifications
* High school or GED required.
* Valid driver's license
* Must be able to qualify for and graduate from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy and become a certified officer
Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Must achieve and maintain certification as specified by the Maryland Police Training Commission
* Must meet the minimum standards of appointment for Probationary Police Officer as established by the Maryland Police Training Commission.
* Must be able to graduate and pass Academy and obtain Maryland Police and Correction Training Commission Certification.
Certifications/Registrations
* Must possess and maintain certification in the State of Maryland as a Police Officer.
* Valid driver's license required.
