For 80 years, we have been a pillar in the community, filling a vital need. We are a solution for working parents, as Club members often spend more time in our programs than in the classroom. By providing essential, high-quality after-school programs strategically focused on healthy lifestyles, character and leadership, and workforce readiness, we help kids dream big about their futures. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include:
- Providing necessary skills, support, and advice for the team's success against opponents, modeling and enforcing good sportsmanship, and completing thorough practice plans for all athletes.
- Overseeing or directing daily practices, sometimes with up to 20 students, and following the Athletic Director's policies and procedures are required.
- Full participation in activities at the assigned site, staff development workshops, trainings, and academy is essential.
- Maintaining an active line of sight on members, providing guidance and role modeling to athletes, and helping resolve conflicts.
- Game day preparation for home games, supervising athletes during games, and coaching.
- Establishing meaningful relationships with members, encouraging positive reinforcement, creating lesson plans, and planning special events are necessary.
- Ensuring a physically and emotionally safe environment for all members at all times is paramount.
Additionally, the Up2Us AmeriCorps Coach will:
- Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport, using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports' best in class training events.
- Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
- Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
Requirements
- Desire and ability to work with children.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
- Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
- Enthusiasm, good judgment, patience, and self-control.
- Must participate in required trainings by the Club, County, State, and/or funders.
- Good verbal and communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a drug test that includes screening for marijuana, criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks.
- Be adaptable and be flexible to changes.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
- The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion.
- Be able to maintain a high level of energy.
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
AmeriCorps Eligibility & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- Must have, or be working towards a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
- Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
- Other requirements as required.
Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:
- Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by the last day of coach contract.
- Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
- Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
- Attendance at days of community service.
- Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
- Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).
- Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events.
