Summary and Objective The Upholstery Technician 1 assists with removals, installs, fabricates or refurbishes aircraft interiors, which may include items such as trim, carpet, cabinetry, seats, upholstery, panels and other items in compliance with all regulations, including FAA, OSHA safety and EPA. This position is for a highly energetic individual with good people skills and decision-making metrics. - Respond to all requests for touch up/repairing of corporate aircraft interiors, as they arise.
- Work with fabric, vinyl and leather hides, composites and other materials using specified adhesives, sewing equipment, hardware, hand tools and various power tools
- Fit panels, cabin headliners, upper sidewall panels, lower sidewall panels, cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads
- Carpet repairs and fabrication
- Comply with safety, and housekeeping policies and use personal protective equipment as required.
- Work with leads and higher skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce cost, cycle time, and man hours using lean manufacturing and other improvement techniques.
- Other duties as required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of aircraft interiors: An Upholstery Technician should have a strong understanding of the components and systems that make up an aircraft interior.
- Technical skills: The ability to read blueprints, use hand and power tools, and operate sewing machines is essential for this position.
- Attention to detail: Upholstery work requires precision and attention to detail, particularly when working with delicate materials such as leather or suede.
- Problem-solving skills: The ability to troubleshoot issues with aircraft interiors and find creative solutions to repair or replace components is crucial.
- Communication skills: An Upholstery Technician may need to work with other members of a maintenance team, as well as pilots, so strong communication skills are important.
- Time management skills: Upholstery work may need to be completed within tight deadlines, so an Upholstery Technician should be able to manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Safety awareness: Upholstery work may involve the use of chemicals and potentially hazardous materials, so an Upholstery Technician should be aware of safety protocols and regulations.

Work environment
- While performing the duties of this job, employees are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and loud noise levels both inside and outside the hangar.

Physical demands
- Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces.
- Must be able to perform work on scaffolding or ladders.

- Manual dexterity and physical strength are necessary to operate tools and/or make adjustments and repairs.
- Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
- The ability to stand or walk an entire shift (can be 8-12 hours)

- High School diploma or Equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- 1-5 years' of related experience
- Relevant education or training: Candidates with a degree or certificate in aircraft upholstery or a related field, such as automotive or marine upholstery.
- Previous experience: Candidates with prior experience in aircraft upholstery or a similar field, such as automotive or marine upholstery, are often preferred.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations: Candidates should be familiar with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations related to aircraft interiors, including fire safety and material flammability requirements.
- Knowledge of aircraft interiors: Candidates should have a solid understanding of the components and systems that make up an aircraft interior.
- Technical skills: Candidates should have experience using hand and power tools, sewing machines, and other specialized equipment required for aircraft upholstery work.
- Attention to detail: Candidates should be able to work with precision and attention to detail, particularly when working with delicate materials such as leather or suede.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team: Candidates should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Strong communication skills: Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with other members of a maintenance team, as well as pilots and flight attendants.
- Candidates with prior related experience to Aviation will be given priority.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States, must provide two forms of Federal Identification.
- Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. This includes verification of previous employment, education, criminal history, and any other relevant information necessary to determine the suitability for the position.
- This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive role under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FAA guidelines
