**Department Description**

The Upstream Development Group, as a part of the Manufacturing Technology Department, has responsibilities to support the development and continuous improvement of bioprocesses for manufacturing of Influenza, Meningitis, COVID, and other vaccines. It encompasses the development of seeds, production processes (Batch and Fed-Batch), evaluation, and improvements of process parameters.

**Position Overview/Key Responsibilties**

Primary responsibility will be to work as a part of the working virus bank (WVB) generation group. WVB is a recombinant baculovirus seed for manufacturing drug substances for Influenza & COVID vaccines.

**Day-to-Day Responsibilities:**

**What:**

+ Maintenance of insect cells in suspension culture at different scales (shake flasks, waves, small and pilot size bioreactors)

+ Transfection of insect cells, baculovirus plaque purification, infection & scale-up of baculovirus stocks

+ Sampling cell culture and preparation of samples for analytical testing

+ Performing standard molecular biology tasks such as baculovirus DNA purification, PCR, restriction endonucleases digest, DNA agarose gel electrophoresis

+ Performing analysis of recombinant protein expression by Western blot, SDS-PAGE, and single radial immunodiffusion techniques (SRID)

+ Responsible for completing paperwork for each task

+ Maintenance of the labs and ordering of supplies

+ Communicate with co-workers and present data on a regular basis at the group and department meetings

+ Flexible in time management

+ Complies with all company policies and standard

**About you**

**Basic Qualifications**

+ Bachelor or Master in biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field.

+ Experience in microbial and molecular biology techniques and, procedures, and aseptic techniques.

+ Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word to perform tasks

+ Ability to plan and conduct laboratory experiments, evaluate, and interpret data.

+ Ability to work with minimum supervision.

+ Detail-oriented and ability to prioritize assignments.

+ Fluent in both written and spoken English

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Experience in cell culture procedures and associated aseptic techniques

+ Experience in molecular biology procedures

+ Willing to work changing schedules and hours as needed

+ Able to work effectively in a collaborative team

+ Detail-oriented and able to prioritize assignments

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
