Job Purpose/Description

The RA for the Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math & Science (UB & UBMS) summer program plays a vital role in supervision of our UB & UBMS high school students and ensures that the programs run in an efficient manner. The primary role of the RA is to supervise up to 10 UB or UBMS participants. While on duty, the RA is responsible for overseeing all participants while in the residence halls and during program events and trips. Included in the RA's role is to plan and implement afternoon and evening activities, enforce rules and consequences, provide tutoring and study skills instruction as necessary, and to recommend plans that support both the academic and personal growth of the participants.

The UB & UBMS RA's provide supervision and role modeling for participants. These positions are live-in residence hall positions. The commitment must be for the full six-week summer component (June 15 -July 25), with a mandatory 3-day training prior to the start of the program (June 11, 12, 13. On-campus housing will be provided for the training). The last week of the summer program will be a cultural and educational field trip.

This position is a paid summer internship and we will work with you and your professors.

Job Duties

* Respond to emergencies

* Supervise students at meal times and during program activities

* Live in the residence hall with the students

* Plan, implement, and participate in recreational activities

* Promote the objectives of UB and UBMS

* Complete the Student Affairs Student Employment Professionalism Rubric with staff

* Tutor students, as needed

* Conduct self as a positive role model at all times

* Enforce rules in a consistent and fair manner

Required Qualifications

* Currently enrolled college student or recent college graduate

* Academic success in basic academic areas, with math and science courses strongly preferred

* A cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

* Work evenings and designated daytime hours

* Attend nightly staff meetings

* Attend summer training: June 11-13, 2025, from 8am - 4pm

* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals

* Excellent organizational and planning skills

* Evidence of leadership qualities

* Enthusiastic and responsible

* Must be willing to work long, flexible hours. This job requires continuous interaction with students and allows very little personal time Monday - Friday.
