Shift times: 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Schedule: Three 12.5-hour shifts per week. Rotating weekends and holidays.
**Purpose:**
Complete education and clinical training to progress to an Urgent Care Technician Specialist. Based on current certifications, experience, and knowledge, will complete appropriate didactic, clinical courses, and competencies of the Urgent Care Technician training program. Successfully obtains required certifications. Program consists of education and rotations within a clinic (Urgent Care or Express Care). Clinic rotations will begin with observation and progress to patient contact, registration, assessment, and patient care under the direction of an employed Urgent Care Technician, Senior, Educator or Clinical Leader.
**Responsibilities:**
+ CLINICAL:
+ Accompany patient to the exam room and verify identity.
+ Collection of patient information, past medical history, medication review and health screening per rooming guidelines.
+ Obtain vital signs, prepare patient and room, set up instruments and equipment needed to complete the visit.
+ Assist provider with the patient exam and procedures.
+ Completes orders and referrals.
+ Schedules patients for advanced care with specialists or clinical services.
+ Relay instructions, provides health education and plan of care to patient/family.
+ Performs direct patient care and assists with a variety of orthopedic and wound related care including clean and dress wounds, splinting and application of prefabricated durable medical equipment.
+ Instruct patients on care for their injury and use of durable medical equipment.
+ Administers medications, vaccines and breathing treatments according to provider order and following departmental protocols.
+ Performs medical testing, including EKG, audiology, and spirometry.
+ Performs full audiogram and screening audiometry following National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health standards.
+ Performs spirometry following National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health standards.
+ Follow protocols for specialized occupational health physicals and surveillance programs.
+ Conducts respiratory fit testing.
+ Follow established procedures for the collection and processing of specimen/cultures for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of sample.
+ Maintains competencies in techniques to obtain specimens via nasopharyngeal, nasal, oropharynx, capillary, wound, urine, etc.
+ Performs point of care testing according to protocol.
+ Performs drug and alcohol testing following chain of custody protocols and approved standards for urine, saliva, hair, breath, blood collection.
+ Recognizes critical, abnormal, and unacceptable results and follow up according to established protocols adheres to established laboratory policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance and safety.
+ Screen and monitor the acuity of patients within the waiting area.
+ Prioritize patients based on acuity and type of service. Informs care team of patients in distress and acts as a first responder in emergent situations.
+ Maintains and cleans rooms and equipment according to protocols and manufacture guidelines.
+ Complies with equipment maintenance, completes logs and calibrations according to protocols.
+ Complies with regulatory agencies.
+ Reports equipment malfunction and concerns to Team Leader.
+ Stocks supplies and reports low inventory according to protocols.
+ Performs in accordance with system wide competencies/behaviors.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Successful completion of Medical Assistant program
+ or equivalent hospital program (EMT/PCT, etc.)
+ or at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant required.
+ Must have basic computer skills.
+ Ability to multi-task, work independently and with a team of care givers.
+ Must be able to adapt to variable workload and work with a diverse patient population.
+ Must be able to remain calm and respond to emergent situations.
+ Completes didactic, clinical courses and competencies of the Urgent Care Technician training.
+ Demonstrates cognitive competency skills measured by quizzes and examinations.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred, but not required).
+ Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment,
+ Certified Professional Collector within 6 months of employment.
