Position Purpose The Material Handler - Frozen Receiving is responsible for the accurate and efficient unloading, inspection, and storage of incoming frozen raw materials used in pet food production. This role ensures that all frozen materials are properly received, documented, and stored under appropriate conditions to maintain quality and compliance with food safety standards. Requirements
- 1st Shift hours are Monday through Friday 6am to 2pm. There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in receiving, warehouse operations, or material handling, especially with frozen or temperature-sensitive products, is preferred.
- Familiarity with inventory systems and food safety standards is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate receiving and storage of frozen materials.
- Basic math and computer skills for inventory tracking and documentation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a cold storage environment while maintaining productivity.
- Good communication and organizational skills to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Must be able to work in a cold environment
- 2 or more years of forklift and receiving experience
Certifications (Preferred):
- Forklift Operator Certification or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
- HACCP or GMP training is preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
- Regular work in freezer conditions with prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
- Work in a manufacturing and receiving environment with noise, dust, and other industrial conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving Frozen Materials: - Safely unload shipments of frozen raw materials from trucks using appropriate equipment, such as forklifts or pallet jacks.
- Inspect incoming materials for quality, temperature compliance, and any signs of damage or contamination.
- Verify shipment details against purchase orders and report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
Documentation and Traceability: - Ensure proper labeling and recordkeeping for all frozen materials to maintain traceability.
- Complete and file receiving documents, including bills of lading and inspection reports.
- Enter material receipts and inventory data into the company's inventory management system.
Storage and Organization: - Transport frozen materials to designated freezer storage areas, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage or contamination.
- Store materials in compliance with FIFO (First In, First Out) principles and temperature requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible storage area.
Inventory Management: - Conduct regular cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory levels of frozen materials.
- Monitor freezer storage conditions, including temperature, and report any issues immediately.
- Communicate with supervisors regarding material shortages, overages, or other inventory concerns.
Collaboration with Production: - Coordinate with production and scheduling teams to ensure frozen materials are available as needed for production.
- Prepare and stage frozen materials for transfer to production areas based on production plans.
Safety and Compliance: - Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE and adherence to cold storage handling guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, and company policies.
- Identify and report any safety hazards, material defects, or quality concerns.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance: - Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to move frozen materials safely and efficiently.
- Perform pre-operation checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
General Support: - Assist with other receiving or material handling tasks as needed, including housekeeping and maintaining freezer cleanliness.
- Participate in team meetings, safety training, and operational improvement initiatives.
