Position Purpose The Quality Technician Chemical is responsible for performing chemical analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure compliance with established quality and safety standards. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of [Company Name]'s pet food products by identifying deviations and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Chemist Technician collaborates with the Quality Assurance and Production teams to resolve quality issues, maintain documentation, and ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines. Requirements
- 1st Shift hours are Monday through Friday 6am to 2pm. There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.
- Education: Associate degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory or quality role, preferably in food manufacturing or a related industry.
- Familiarity with pet food testing and nutritional analysis is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques and equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, HPLC, GC).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information management systems.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Working Conditions
- Laboratory and production environments, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes, allergens, and production noise.
- May require standing for extended periods and handling of raw ingredients or finished products.
Key Responsibilities
- Chemical Analysis and Testing:
- Perform routine chemical tests, including moisture, protein, fat, fiber, and ash analysis, on raw materials and finished products.
- Analyze samples using advanced techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and titration, as needed.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Quality Monitoring:
- Monitor product consistency and compliance with nutritional specifications and safety standards.
- Support investigations of quality deviations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Assist with shelf-life studies and stability testing for new and existing products.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Accurately record and report test results in the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Maintain detailed logs and documentation to comply with internal and regulatory audit requirements.
- Prepare reports summarizing quality metrics and trends for management review.
- Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and other relevant industry standards.
- Participate in regulatory inspections and audits as required.
- Follow all safety protocols for handling chemicals and operating laboratory equipment.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with production teams to provide real-time feedback on quality issues and solutions.
- Support product development and R&D teams with chemical testing and validation for new formulas.
