Position Purpose The Material Handler - Raw Dry Materials is responsible for the unloading, storage, and distribution of raw dry ingredients used in pet food production. This role ensures that raw materials are available for production in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accurate inventory and adhering to safety and quality standards. Requirements
- 2nd Shift hours during start up will be 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday. At some point at the end of commissioning the 2nd shift hours will change to 2pm to 10pm. There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.
Unloading and Receiving: - Safely unload shipments of raw dry materials from trucks, verifying the accuracy of delivery documents.
- Inspect raw materials for quality, reporting any damage or non-conformance to the supervisor.
- Properly label and record incoming materials for traceability.
Storage and Inventory Management: - Transport raw materials to designated storage areas, ensuring compliance with FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of raw dry materials, updating inventory systems as needed.
- Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with full inventory audits.
Material Distribution: - Transport raw materials from storage to production areas, ensuring accurate and timely delivery based on production schedules.
- Collaborate with production staff to ensure the appropriate materials are available for use.
- Handle materials efficiently to minimize waste and contamination.
Safety and Compliance: - Follow all plant safety protocols, including wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and using safe material handling techniques.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in raw material storage and work areas to prevent cross-contamination or hazards.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance: - Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to transport raw materials safely and efficiently.
- Perform pre-operation checks on equipment and report any maintenance needs.
Documentation and Communication: - Record material usage, movement, and inventory updates accurately.
- Communicate material shortages, discrepancies, or quality issues to supervisors or quality teams.
- Assist with training new team members on raw material handling procedures.
General Support: - Support warehouse and production teams with additional material handling tasks as required.
- Participate in safety and operational training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in material handling, warehouse operations, or manufacturing is preferred.
- Forklift certification is preferred or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
Skills and Competencies:
- 2 or more years forklift experience (Required)
- Knowledge of raw material handling practices and inventory management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic math and computer skills for inventory tracking and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Forklift Operator Certification.
- HACCP or GMP training.
Work Environment:
- Work in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
- Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate material handling equipment regularly.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Key Responsibilities Benefits:
- 2nd and 3rd Shift will have a shift differential pay of $1.00 per hour added to the standard hourly rate for the position.
