Apply on PolkOne via the ME tab in Polk One!*~*Polk County Utilities provides safe drinking water, wastewater collection and treatment systems to nearly 68,000 accounts in unincorporated communities throughout the county. Performance of manual laboring tasks.ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES•Primary operation of construction and maintenance equipment listed below at least 50% of work effort. •Operates one or more of the following to perform maintenance on potable drinking water distribution system and sewer collection systems. •CCTV sewer Inspection Equipment •Skid Loader •Boom/Crane Mounted Truck •Vacuum Truck •Mounted Backhoe/End Loader •5 yard & 10-yard Dump Truck•May operate smaller equipment such as forklifts or other light equipment. •Operates heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis.•Washes, cleans and provides routine maintenance on equipment. •Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned. •Performs related duties as required on portable drinking water system and sewer and reclaimed water infrastructure.•Clean, swab, repair and perform maintenance on potable drinking water mains.•Install, tap, repair/replace, pressure test or disinfect water main and appurtenances (including fittings, valves, and hydrants).•Operate or adjust control valves as necessary to regulate water distribution system flows or pressures.•Evaluate and interpret water quality measurements in water distribution systems and troubleshoot to determine causes of water quality complaints.•Flush water mains; install or repair/replace water service lines and appurtenances (including fittings, valves and meters).•Test and maintain meters; locate and mark meter mains or service lines.•Operate or exercise isolation valves or water, sewer and reuse systems.•Test and maintain fire hydrants, repair/overhaul control valves and hydrants. •Performing water quality measurements in water distribution systems; reading blueprints and updating GIS information.•May act as lead worker when assigned.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS•Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and use of assigned equipment. •Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the operation of equipment. •Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in the operation of equipment. •Ability to make routine maintenance checks and emergency repairs of equipment.•Ability to see, hear sounds at a normal level, ambulate independently, drives from work site to work site, bend, stoop, sit and stand. •Ability to use multi- hand and/or foot controls. •Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination. •Must be able to lift and carry materials that are a minimum of five (5) pounds and greater with the average weight being forty-five (45) pounds. •Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.•Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, dirt, sewer systems, and water systems).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduate of an accredited High School or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.Minimum six (6) months experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the equipment listed above. Must have appropriate Water Distribution License or obtain within (24) months of hire date.Florida Department of Environmental Protection Rule 62-699.Must possess a valid driver's license and able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class A driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTMust have a home telephone at the time of employment as employee is subject to call out to assist in emergencies.This position shall be required to report for work as directed when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.About Polk County, FLLocated in the heart of Central Florida is Polk County, Florida's fourth-largest county: Seventeen municipalities, ranging from a tiny village to a metropolitan city, are located in Polk County, along with twenty-four unincorporated, populated areas.
