JOB SUMMARY
Performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of water, wastewater and treatment plant systems and appurtenances as assigned. Responsible for fabrication, repair, and installation of equipment and appurtenances necessary for proper operation of all systems. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through proper functioning of equipment, systems, discussion, and report analysis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines and related system components, including taps, valves, pumps, tanks, service lines, etc.
* Inspects and evaluates condition of systems; diagnoses and corrects leaks, blockages, or other problems; clears debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, easements, valve boxes, etc.; performs confined space entries; cleans manholes and lines; and changes out sewer rings and lids, etc.
* Maintains lift stations; performs daily checks and preventative maintenance; monitors system operability and records, dials, and charts; performs routine adjustments and repairs in response to monitoring results; and receives, responds to, and resolves complaints of odors and noise at lift stations.
* Gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools, and supplies; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment as needed; and notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.
* Performs related activities; repairs asphalt, concrete, yards, and other areas that are disrupted as a result of repair work.
* Locates manholes, service connections, valves, and other utilities utilizing global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) maps; and enters and updates department database with location details.
* Participates in emergency response and scheduled on call program.
* Performs related work as assigned and assists other departments and employees as required.
* Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
* Within three (3) months of position assignment:
* Must maintain a valid Commercial class A Driver's License (CDL), including appropriate endorsements
* Within six (6) months of position assignment:
* Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
* Must pass and maintain respirator fit test and Pulmonary Function test for respiratory protection.
* Within two (2) years of position assignment:
* Depending on the area of assignment, may be required to maintain one or more of the following certifications or licensures: FWPCOA Wastewater Collection C and Water Distribution System Operation Level 3.

* Ability to obtain the knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the workplace.
* Ability to input information into a personal computer.
* Ability to collect various samples from collection and distribution systems.
* Ability to use sound judgment in detecting and correcting unusual conditions or recommending repair scheduling.
* Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and blueprints in performance of job duties.
* Ability to present and maintain a high professional public image with good customer relations.
* Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
* Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Walking is frequently necessary along with pushing, pulling, and digging. Frequent lifting of 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is frequently exposed to raw wastewater and treated effluent, outdoor weather conditions or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights, and/or dust.

The position requires moderate exposure or risk related to physical and/or mental health and safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.).
