1st Shift - Monday thru Thursday, 6:30am to 4:30pm Objective: The Utility assists production by performing routine loading, unloading, material handling, set-up, and janitorial duties in an exemplary manner according to company quality policies. Qualified candidates will possess the following Minimum Requirements:
- Three months experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to visually inspect parts and complete paperwork
- Experience using measuring instruments (such as micrometers, calipers, fixtures, gages) preferred
- An excellent work record, including attendance
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Utilities are responsible for owning a set of approved calipers and micrometers
(Minimum requirements are updated annually to meet the demands of various positions; employees hired prior to the latest revision update may not meet all current requirements.) Essential Functions:Standard Work:
- Sort, stack and inspect parts as needed for the department according to internal and external customer specifications.
- Assist press operators, machine operators, or technicians with set-up of presses and machinery.
- Follow set-up instructions when operating machines. Support activities in the change-over process.
- Read, follow, and complete tags. Assist in verification of routers. Ensure that containers of product are properly tagged and marked with correct label including count.
- Use work scheduling system to proficiently start jobs, print labels, load components and raw materials, and close out jobs.
- Follow pack instructions according to customer specifications and prepare for shipping.
- Properly place scrap in the right container.
- Run hi-lo/forklift for production purposes and use overhead crane to move steel coils, if necessary.
- Perform other duties as required to support production as directed by the Team Leader.
Continuous Improvement/Lean Principles:
- Efficiently utilize machine downtime.
- Participate in, and support lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events and problem solving events, identifying and eliminating all types of waste. Document cost savings, consolidate processes, and eliminate unnecessary operations.
- Suggest and implement ideas to increase personal and departmental efficiency.
- Anticipate problems and work to eliminate them before they happen.
Quality:
- Conduct quality checks per control plan, inspection check sheet and quality alerts, including visual inspections. Review part quality using appropriate boundary sample or inspection procedure.
- Use calipers, micrometers, thread gages, height gages, rind gages, and other quality items as required by work center in order to ensure the production of quality parts.
- Operate the CMM and interpret the CMM report, as needed.
Safety/5S:
- Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, TS 16949 and safety regulations.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), controls, safety devices and use of coolants.
- Mop, sweep, change oil, change coolant, and clean around press areas and machines to remove spilled oil, spilled coolant, debris, chips and trash.
- Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate action, bringing to the attention of leadership.
- Organize and maintain personal work area and maintain 5S zone to optimize productivity per 5S standards.
Teamwork/Dependability:
- Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
- Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management, including training and validating/appraising work as appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
- Accept instructions and duties in a positive manner, while treating all co-workers with dignity and respect.
