Overview:
Woolpert is currently seeking a SUE utility locator/designator responsible for conducting on-site investigations using various locating equipment and techniques to designate, map, and mark underground utilities. The ideal candidate is skilled in using tools like electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and other detection equipment. This role involves ensuring accurate and efficient detection of utilities to support construction, maintenance, and mapping projects.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize electromagnetic locating and GPR systems to detect and accurately map underground utilities.
- Analyze data from locating equipment to determine the location, depth, and type of utilities.
- Mark and document utility locations using industry-standard methods.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of locating equipment to ensure precision and reliability.
- Maintain detailed records of utility locations, equipment maintenance, and performance.
- Stay updated on advancements in utility locating technologies and practices.
- Assist in the training and development of SUE technicians.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED and applicable OSHA certifications.
- Must be proficient with forms of electromagnetic locating equipment and ground-penetrating radar equipment.
- Must have 3 years of related work experience, preferred.
- Must have proficient understanding and use of multiple utility locating principals/standards, along with advanced locating techniques and recognition and understanding of different connection points.
- Must have proficient understanding and use of with multiple electromagnetic locating systems from various manufactures.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
- Must have average communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Must be able to travel frequently and extensively, overnight and/or out of town.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be CPU literate: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with data transfer, Microsoft Suite, email, and basic software used in surveying.
- Must have valid drivers license and pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Must maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment background and drug screening. Periodic drug testing may be required per company policy.
Physical Qualifications:
- Must be in good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms, bend and climb, and balance.
- Must be able to use tools and equipment (such as a shovel, tape measure, cloth/steel tape, machete, and hammer).
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must have vision abilities of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments, often in remote and rugged locations.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking on uneven terrain, and carrying equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment as required.
