St. James Parish Government is hiringa Utility Repairman I under the Operations Department. This position is responsiblefor the maintenance, repair, and installation tasks for the public Gas andWater Distribution System.Thisposition is classified as essential during declared emergencies or naturaldisasters. This is a nonexempt position, forty hours per week. This position is Safety Sensitive and subject to random drug testing as per the St. JamesParish Government Employee Handbook.Individualsin this class are able to complete the majority of their work with a minimumamount of supervision.ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes anycombination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilitiesincluding but not limited to:- Performs maintenance, repairs,and installation tasks for the public gas and water distribution system- Reads and records current usagedata from gas/water meters- Uses equipment or visuallychecks for gas and water leaks- May assist with the installationof wet taps on water and gas lines- Classifies, codes, and postsvarious information and data into computer systems- Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS: To performthis job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential jobsatisfactorily. Must successfully complete all training requirements as perthe Operations & Maintenance Plan and the Emergency Plan for natural gassystems.MATHEMATICALSKILLS: Abilityto add, subtract, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals.REASONINGABILITY: Abilityto define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished inwritten, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving severalconcrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Mustpossessa valid Louisiana Driver's License and have an acceptable drivingrecord. Must be part of the Parish Utilities weekend and nights callout roster. OTHER SKILLSAND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of the operatingprocedures and maintenance of equipment operated- Ability to clean and performminor maintenance and repair of equipment operated- Ability to perform physical laboras required of the position.- Operate various types of officeequipment (e.g. copy machine, calculator, word processor, computer terminal,etc.)- Have excellent public relationsskills- General knowledge of the hazardsand applicable safety rules and regulations in vehicle and equipment operationPHYSICALDEMANDS: Thephysical demands described here are representative of those that must be met byan employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilitiesto perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of thisjob, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and talkand hear.
