PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.Repairs and maintains water distribution and wastewater collection systems including the installation and testing of mains, pipe lines, meters, hydrants, valves, water and irrigation meters and related system components. Repairs and replaces valves, fire hydrants, water distribution lines, sewer lines, manholes, air release valves, lift stations and structures. Inspects water and sewer lines, searches for leaks, measures flow and locates lines for contractors, other utility companies and co-workers.Operates TV camera truck and oversees other employees assigned to the televising activities; Records data acquired and prepares necessary reports for review by the Group Leader or Field Supervisor.Operates Valve Exercise Truck and oversees other employees assigned to the valve exercising activities; Records data, updates field maps and reports discrepancies to the Group Leader or Field Supervisor.Operates vehicles and construction/maintenance equipment as necessary to complete work projects; checks equipment for proper servicing, operation and safety and reports defects to supervisor; maintains inventory of tools and equipment. Installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of construction and repair activities; directs and controls traffic around work sites. Prepares road and applies asphalt when construction is complete; repairs sidewalks and driveways and finishes concrete as required; replaces landscaping.Supports and actively promotes the City's safety programs. Follows standard operating procedures, observes safety practices and reports potential safety hazards. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Knowledge of water distribution and sewer collection system maintenance practices and procedures including the proper use of tools and equipment and knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices applicable to maintenance work.Knowledge of Work Zone Safety, Confined Space Entry and Trench SafetyAbility to safely operate assigned vehicles, power or hand tools and equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to lift and carry heavy or bulky items frequently (up to 100 lbs.).OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:Exposure to potential physical harm, moving traffic, dangerous machinery, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, wild animals and extreme weather conditions. Works in trenches and around Heavy Equipment operated by others.Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for the position.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:City vehicles (service trucks, flat bed and dump trucks and trailer), T.V. Camera Truck, Valve Exercise Truck, pumps, power valve turner, trencher, generators, radio, computers, concrete saw, and miscellaneous hand tools including shovels, sledge hammers, wrenches, pipe cutters, ratchets, saws, etc. Employee may use Heavy Equipment during training. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six ( 6) years of construction and/or maintenance of Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B.
