Work includes being on-call after hours for emergency service requests and cutting off customers for non-payment as directed. Public contact includes talking with individuals and receiving complaints while on private property. Employees are only responsible for own work assignments and not involved in personnel supervision. Employees refer to supervisors to solve work related problems. Handheld meter readers, a variety of hand tools, and specialized utility service tap equipment are examples of the tools, equipment, instruments and materials used in the job. Work requires the application of judgment and common sense understanding to perform repetitive tasks in routine and/or stable situations. Employees receive assignments generally indicating the work to be done, the deadlines and the priorities. Assignments may require initiation independently without specific instructions. Examples of Job DutiesParticipating as a crew member repairing leaks, installing utility service taps, reading meters, and performing grounds maintenance on right-of-ways.Reading meters and vaults for incoming water purchased daily by the Utility system. Setting and installing meter boxes. Loading truck with materials and equipment.Laying and repairing underground pipe.Mowing and grounds maintenance around tank sites, lines and right-of-ways.Spraying, weed eating, and painting fire hydrants.Turning customers' utility service on/off as directed.Washing and maintaining vehicles.Delivering water samples to lab.Repairing installation areas back to normal conditions with cold patch, gravel or grass. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in landscape maintenance.Working knowledge of the operation of lift stations and pumps and ability to determine when machinery is not operating properly.Knowledge of the use of landscape maintenance equipment and common hand and power tools.Knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment.Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required by the work especially detecting methane gas and working in confined spaces. Skill in teamwork.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to prepare records of work activities. QualificationsAny combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and construction work experience sufficient to meet the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.STANLY COUNTY BENEFITS (Full-time Employees) Employees accrue sick and vacation time each paycheck.Stanly County observes twelve (12) holidays. Our plan is a PPO, 80/20, with a $1000 deductible. Teledoc is offered through our insurance for a $10 co-pay per visit. Primary care visit is a $40 co-payment. Specialist is $50 co-pay. One free eye exam per year. The insurance coverage is FREE to full-time employees. Dental Coverage is with Guardian dental insurance and is FREE to full-time employees.Other volunteer insurance benefits include: Flexible Spending Program, Life Insurance, Cancer, Accident, and Disability policies.Stanly County offers an employee health clinic. Our on-site Advance Practice Provider will see employees and dependents covered on our county insurance plan free of charge. This service does not replace your primary healthcare providers but augments their care. As a wellness benefit, employees have the option of joining the Stanly County YMCA. The County will pay half of the employee's membership.Employee Assistant Program is offered through Atrium Health. Each employee will receive up to six (6) free sessions on a rolling year. Dependent children and/or spouse may also use the sessions.RETIREMENT:Stanly County Employees will be a member of the N. C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Stanly County is required to withhold six percent (6%) from each paycheck and deposit it into the retirement system. The County also contributes to the plan. You are vested at five years as a contributing member. After one year of contributing membership in the system, a death benefit is available if you die while still in active service or within 180 days of your last day of service.NC 401(k) (Supplemental Retirement Plan):Employees can contribute to the Empower 401(k) plan upon hire.
