Details: Job Description: Water & Wastewater Utility TechnicianEmployment: Direct HireLocation: Newport News, VAResponsibilities:- Maintain water and wastewater systems, including water mains, meters, sewer lines, and fire hydrants.- Operate heavy equipment (dump truck, backhoe, Vactor truck) for system maintenance.- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair pumps, sewer lift stations, and related infrastructure.- Respond to service orders, perform leak detection, and read water meters.- Ensure compliance with safety, water quality, and environmental regulations.- Perform routine sampling and maintain preventative programs (flushing, spill response, cross-connection).- Interact professionally with the public, providing customer support during outages and maintenance.Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent.- 2+ years experience in water/wastewater systems.- Valid driver's license; ability to obtain commercial license within 6 months.- Water/wastewater operator certification (or ability to obtain).- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic math skills.- Strong communication and customer service skills.Physical Requirements:- Work in confined spaces, extreme weather, and noisy environments.- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights.- Must pass safety training and comply with regulatory standards.Compensation is within the range of $20-35/hr with overtime opportunities available, competitive benefits package, 401k plan, and PTO.
