They often serve as the face of the division to the public as they routinely work around the public. Janitorial services, waste removal, vandalism remediation, facility repair and preventive maintenance are the primary responsibilities of this position. Prioritization of work is necessary to ensure that safety and health hazards are responded to in a timely manner.This position will be 5 hours/week, year round.This recruitment will remain open until filled with a first review of applications on Friday, October 4th.Essential Job FunctionsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Library Cleanliness
  • Emptying outside garbage cans.
  • Ground litter removal.
  • Vandalism reporting and removal/repair.
  • Assessment and mitigation of park safety hazards.
  • Identification of illicit drug use, proper disposal practices, proper decontamination practices.
  • Library Program Support
  • Library cleaning and preparation ahead of scheduled Library programming.
  • Library space maintenance and repair.
  • Communication with Library Users
  • Interact with Library patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Respond to questions and complaints appropriately, refer to applicable staff when necessary.
  • Interaction with homeless population on a frequent basis, knowledge of de-escalation tactics.
  • GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
    • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
    • Participate in committees when requested.
    • Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
    • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
    • Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.
    QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. A typical way to qualify would be a high school degree and at least six (6) months of related experience. This position also requires:Knowledge of:
    • Methods, strategies, materials, equipment, procedures, and practices used in monitoring, maintaining and repairing parks and open space systems, including landscape construction, tree maintenance, irrigation, playgrounds, athletic and sports fields, and other related facilities and properties.
    • Basic equipment maintenance and repair.
    • Potential hazards and appropriate safety precautions required to perform assigned duties.
    • Federal, State, and City laws, ordinances and regulations related to program area.
    Skill and Ability to:
    • Evaluate potential problems in public works tasks and take appropriate action to solve problems.
    • Safely operate light, medium, and heavy equipment used in public works projects.
    • Work in confined spaces.
    • Read and follow instructions on container labels.
    • Exemplify traits that reflect the City's culture, including integrity, customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility, and a willingness to change.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES:
    • Driver's license valid in the State of Oregon with an acceptable driving record
    Supplemental InformationWORKING CONDITIONS:The position requires regular (60-80%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment. The position requires moderate (40-60%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require a high degree of speed, agility, hand eye coordination and equipment operation. The work environment has regular hazards or obstacles (40-60%). There may be some personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are somewhat uncomfortable, with moderate (40-60%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may require regular responsibility for driving.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general direction of the Library Director and Library Supervisors.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
