Job Summary
The VA (Veterans Affairs) School Certifying Official is responsible for maintaining VA certifications for the GGC campus. The Certifying Official will ensure all VA benefits are processed within VA policy guidelines and institutional procedures. The position requires a high level of ethics in the counseling of students. This individual is expected to play a key role in fostering a positive work environment with the expectation of continuous improvement and first-class customer service. Position will also provide leadership to the Enrollment Management Services Division. Collaborative and team-oriented skills with a commitment to student success are essential attributes to this position.
Responsibilities
* Administer the US Department of Veterans Affairs(VA) Educational Benefits at Georgia Gwinnett College by serving as the primary point of contact for questions pertaining to Veteran Education benefits, from students and VA representatives.
* Inform VA enrollment status of veterans and other eligible persons and update State Approving Agency (SAA) as instructed.
* Update supervisors as needed of any internal concerns which may affect service to VA students.
* Assist VA students in applying for benefits, certify VA student benefits while maintaining knowledge of benefit eligibility requirements.
* Maintain records of VA students (38 CFR 21.4253 or 21.4254) and ensure records requested by VA/SAA are available for inspection (38 CFR 21.4209).
* Assist new and continuing students throughout their enrollment, including reporting relevant student record data to VA for processing of Veteran education funding.
* Adjust, amend and terminate VA certifications accordingly to reflect current student courses; verify enrollment to be certified with VA and comply with Degree Plan requirements.
* Reconcile ledger cards with VA benefits and multiple funding sources; prepare operational tracking reports as requested by management.
* Other duties as assigned, such as participate in projects that support enrollment management services goals of the college.
Required Qualifications
* High School or GED
* 1 year of relevant work experience.
* 1 year or customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* 2 Year / Associate Degree
* 1 year of VA Certifying experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
* Comply with all Federal, State, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures.
