Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Vascular SurgeryVascular PA will primarily assist our vascular surgeons in the operating room, the hospital and clinic setting, taking care of a broad spectrum of vascular medical conditions. They will be first and second assisting the surgeon with routine and complex vascular procedures. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post-operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: - Provide first assistant services to physicians during vascular and general surgical procedures.
- Make hospital rounds, as scheduled.
- Evaluate and treat patients during clinic hours in office (new and existing patients)
- Obtain medical histories, examine and treat patients, order/interpret lab tests and diagnostic imaging to make diagnoses.
- Provide pre and post-operative care.
- Complete paperwork for submission to hospital/medical offices, as required.
- Provide on-call coverage as needed.
- Other duties, as assigned by supervising physician.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Assess patient health status including state of wellness, compliance with care plan and determinesappropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.2. Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, physicals, and monitoring therapies.3. Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.4. Rotates weekend hospital coverage with other non-physician providers.5. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.6. Triage patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Educates patients and families as appropriate. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.7. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.8. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results.9. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.10. Documents patient information and care provided in patient record and maintains department statistics.11. Uses computer to access/ enter needed data.12. Consults with other staff as necessary.13. Maintains patient confidentiality.14. Other duties as assigned.The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.
EDUCATION: Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program or approved nurse practitioner program.
EXPERIENCE: Three years professional nurse practitioner experience or three years experience as physician assistant preferred. Clinic setting preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Current state PA license, certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, or current state APRN license. Current ACLS certification.
KNOWLEDGE:1. Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medications, delivering physical care following treatment plan.2. Knowledge of how to assess patient health.3. Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
