Program Description:The Vocational Day Services (VDS) Program is an afterschool work readiness program for adolescent youth that have a history of mental health challenges. This position has a starting hourly rate of $18.00, dependent upon educational credentials and experience.The mission of VDS is to assist youth in developing the social, emotional, physical, and vocational abilities which are fundamental for successful placement in the workplace. While in VDS, youth work on individualized vocational goals while participating in the program's learning activities. Learning activities are centered around career exploration based on youths' interests, navigating through the employment process, and meeting the day-to-day expectations at a job to maintain employment. The VDS program operates year-round and is conducted every Tuesday and Wednesday afterschool.Qualifications:
- Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred; in education or related field
- Experience in working with adolescent youth in an educational setting
- Possess strong communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel.
- Cooking experience strongly preferred
- Valid NYS driver's license
Schedule:
- Approximately 10-12 hours per week (between hours of 12:00pm-7:00pm)
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct instruction to youth on topics regarding careers, the employment process, work readiness, and customer service skills (curriculum and learning activities provided)
- Teaches culinary knowledge and skills to the youth in program involving assisting youth with following recipes and creating simple meals or desserts, and providing youth with supplementary culinary learning activities (curriculum and learning activities provided)
- Acquires all the necessary ingredients and/or materials needed for the recipes
- Facilitates individual meetings with youth regarding program behaviors and behavior progress
- Participates in assessment interview, service plan review, and discharge meetings with Program Administrator
- Documents and maintains updated progress notes of individual and group sessions in the AWARDS electronic health system
- Transports youth to program and home after program
- Participates in assigned meetings and trainings
- Complete other duties as requested/assigned
