Description General Definition of Work:Under immediate supervision, perform a variety of manual tasks around the vehicle repair shop area to help maintain city vehicles. Examples of Duties Essential Job Functions:1. Inspect vehicles for cleanliness, minor damage, and overall appearance, and check fuel and fluid levels. 2. Drive vehicles to and from various repair facilities for servicing.3. Pick up and deliver parts and supplies, using light truck.4. Wash and wax exterior of vehicles, using pressure washers, mop, squeegee, and buffing equipment.5. Clean interior of vehicle, using cloth, broom, vacuum cleaner, etc.6. Make minor repairs to vehicles in shop and field, such as repairing flats, replacing windshield wiper blades, changing light bulbs and jump-starting batteries.7. Keep warehouse and repair shop neat and orderly. Other Job Functions:1. Assist mechanics by providing parts and tools, positioning parts for installation, jacking up vehicles, etc.2. Assist in stock room by pulling parts as needed.3. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of common shop safety regulations and practices.
- Basic knowledge of automobile parts
- Working knowledge of safe operation of various vehicles up to 16,000 GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating).
- Knowledge of city streets in Shelby County area.
- Skill in using specialized automotive cleaning equipment.
- Skill in using basic tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers.
- Ability to read and interpret city maps.
- Ability to read and interpret part invoices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate standard shift vehicles.
- Physical ability to perform essential job duties.
Requirements Education and Experience:High School graduate or GED and six months general auto care experience including operation of vehicles up to 16,000 GVWR, or any combination of education, training, and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions. Working Conditions: Work duties performed inside and outdoors. Occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures. Regularly exposed to dust, unpleasant smells, and excessive noise. Subject to hazards of operating equipment and irritation from gasoline, oil and solvents.
