JOB TITLE: Venue Manager DEPARTMENT: The Berman Center for the Performing Arts REPORTS TO: SeniorDirector of The Berman Center for the Performing Arts PURPOSE/SCOPE OF REPONSIBLITY Responsible for supporting the overall operations of The Berman Center for the Performing Arts and JCC special events and rentals and is charged with assisting in maintaining a professional level of excellence in the hospitality experience of our clients, day to day operation of our facilities both administratively and technically, and in forward facing capacities with a first-class approach across all our event management. The Assistant Director will be expected to act in part for the Senior Director when they are away or unavailable to perform supervisory duties. This is a full-time, year-round position. ESSENTIAL DUTES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Assist the Senior Director in supervising all aspects of each venue including hall, lobbies, conference rooms, stage, scene shop, storage spaces, and catwalks.
  • Assumes the daily responsibility for the venue operations including hospitality operations, setups, breakdowns, load ins, lighting, sound, video presentation, scenic construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance.
  • Supervises the use of lighting, sound, video, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  • Plan, schedule, and provide the equipment and staffing support required for each event or performance.
  • Communicate effectively both orally, in writing, and across video conferencing to ensure efficiency and clarity with all departmental contracted responsibilities, including but not limited to coordinating scenic elements and installations; prepare video capture, lighting and sound systems appropriate to each performance; and provide clients with all expected and contracted services.
  • Assist the Senior Director in overseeing all business operations such as rentals, alcohol sales, box office and front of house management including event staffing, ticketing sales and services, phone and email communications, on-line sales content.
  • Take responsibility in scheduling and supporting theatre staff, event staff, stage crew and volunteers.
  • Assist and provide recommendations in contract execution and fulfillment.
  • Maintain inventory of necessary supplies, safety equipment, a/v equipment, and office needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers, and others.
  • Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
  • Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteers, event staffing, or technical crew.
  • Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety protocols, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by JCC departments and others engaged by or renting the facility.
  • Makes recommendations to the Senior Director regarding capital purchases of equipment or facility improvements.
  • Assist Senior Director in annual and event budget preparations.
  • Maintain irregular and extended working hours.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain vendor list and pricing schedules for rentals.
  • Generate assets, edit video or presentations, prepare and support streamed and online content for delivery and viewing across various platforms.
  • Manage media and recorded content storage.
  • Provide Manager on Duty responsibilities for rentals and events.
  • Handle and manage departmental purchasing within reasonable timelines to ensure timely implementation.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Provide concepts, set-up, or technical assistance across departments to support forward facing events and large-scale annual fundraisers or donor specific events.

  • Bachelor of Arts or Fine Arts in theatre or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 plus years of experience in theatre administration, as a Technical Director or Events Coordinator
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Moderate to advanced skillset in Asana, Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Premiere, & Audition
  • Other technology support expectations: New Tek Tricaster (NDI), QLab, CAD/Drafting, Zoom.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances.
  • Able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.
  • Required to have, or be willing to learn a working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage equipment, video and streaming presentation, sound engineering and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
