The Veteran Employment and Training Specialist assists veterans in achieving their career goals by providing guidance and support for VA educational benefits, vocational services, licensure, and training courses that lead to meaningful employment. They assist program participants with enrollment/completion of their coursework, trainings, licensing and certifications related to their employment goals, connecting them with job opportunities in their industry. They work in tandem with the SSVF staff to support the overall employment and housing stability goals of veteran families enrolled in the program.

Essential Duties & Responsbilities:

  • Develop linkages with certification and training programs for veterans that align with industry demands and lead to meaningful employment opportunities and career advancement.
  • Actively engage in job development activities, including cultivating relationships with potential employers, conducting outreach to businesses, and identifying employment opportunities that align with veterans' skills and aspirations.
  • Assess veterans' training needs comprehensively and formulate personalized training plans to align with their employment objectives.
  • Report directly to the Employment Program Director while also receiving supervision and guidance from the Employment Program Manager to ensure seamless coordination and alignment with program objectives.
  • Achieve monthly and annual quotas established by Program leadership, ensuring adherence to deliverables specified by program funding entities to guarantee successful program outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the employment team to provide comprehensive support, working towards the common goal of assisting veterans in achieving their employment objectives.
  • Evaluate or assess veterans' needs for training programs or recommendations.
  • Collaborate with management/employment team to identify training needs based on veterans requests/interests or programs' needs.
  • Market the employment program to a training agency/company that has an interest in working/investing with our veteran population.
  • Assist veterans in renewing expired licenses and certificates.
  • Responsible for requesting W2 form and other needed documents for the payment process.
  • Process and submit payment requests for training.
  • Maintain and updates records of veteran data in AWARDS, including maintain participant records of eligibility status, employment information and updating records based on participants progress.
  • Meets with the training instructor (in person or remotely) to discuss the certification/license requirements to qualify for a Professional Certificate.
  • Act as a liaison between veterans and training schools to address relations issues, such as absences/lateness, complaints, or other veterans/training school concerns, and develop employment opportunities to match training programs.
  • Provide light case management services to veterans while they engage in employment services
  • Requires the ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective, professional, courteous, and cooperative manner.
  • Assist veterans in applying for VA benefits and DD-214 replacements as needed.
  • Follow-up with households to assess their ongoing employment and housing stability needs.
  • Assist program management in regular participant record reviews.
  • Document all services in compliance with agency standards.
  • Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, case conferences, division meetings and trainings.
  • Respond to information requests from internal S:US staff.
  • Assist with accreditation reviews, monitoring visits and program audits.
  • Responds to stakeholder needs promptly, accurately and with courtesy and respect. Model appropriate behavior. Represent the organization in a positive and appropriate manner.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor s Degree Required, Effective written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Basic computer skills (e.g. MS Office suite and Windows) Qualified applicants will be committed to the mission and values of S:US, with an understanding of the issues facing the people we serve. Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated ability to develop and manage relationships with schools, training providers, and other stakeholders. Staff member will be expected to work across all five boroughs of NYC and be flexible with field work, emergency response and scheduling to meet the needs of the program and people we serve.ID 2024-16027
