A social services organization on Long Island is actively seeking a driven and dedicated professional to join their staff in Suffolk County as their newVeteran Peer Navigator. Responsibilities: ThePeer Navigator will:
- Assist peers in verbalizing personal goals for housing stability
- Maintain a strong knowledge of VA and community resources
- Support peers' wellness and recovery goals if applicable
- Encourage professional, educational and personal growth when appropriate
- Act as an advocate for Veterans
- Attend community outreach activities in order to educate and recruit new program
- participants.
- Accompany Veterans to various appointments at: DSS, VA, SSA, court, etc.
- Type case notes on client interactions
- Maintain confidentiality
- Attend team meetings, supervision and trainings as needed
- Travel across Nassau and Suffolk Counties to meet with and assist Veterans as needed
- Performs other duties related to the program as defined by the Regional Director
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- College degree or HS diploma with equivalent relevant experience
- Must be a Veteran
- Self-motivated and resourceful
- Ability to use computers
- Strong communication skills
- Must be able to work as a team player or independently
- Knowledge of local resources, Veteran entitlements or other benefits is a plus
- Must have a valid NYS Driver's License
