Individual is responsible for providing support and follow-up to veterans and families through the various programs provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as well as local and state programs..
* Honorably discharged veteran of the United States military.
* High School diploma or GED and two years of related work experience required.
* Will be required to become a CVSO within one (1) year from initial hire.
* Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
* Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business as a continued condition of employment.
* All licenses and certifications must be maintained as continued condition of employment.
* Assists veterans and families with obtaining benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the State of Ohio, and Delaware County through programs such as Disability Compensation, Pension, VA Healthcare Enrollment, Disability and Indemnity Compensation, VA Home Loans, GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, and Burial Benefits;
* Provides counsel to veterans and families on recommended courses of action;
* Analyzes, plans, and implements veteran services guidelines and regulations; interprets assistance rules, guidelines and laws and State and Federal veterans laws;
* Travel to locations outside the normal workplace to provide veteran services remotely;
* Assist with outreach functions;
* Receives, prepares, files and maintains documents, records, and correspondence;
* Assists with the Delaware County Financial Assistance Policy when needed;
* Assists other departmental staff in various projects and functions;
* Operates office equipment as needed;
* Handles general public inquiries to include people with disabilities and people who may be upset, difficult, and/or ill to include service animals;
* Transports veterans to VA facilities, as needed.
* Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance;
* Attends various training sessions, video conferences, and workshops.
* Performs typing, word processing, and related computer operations;
* Works overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required; and
* Other duties as assigned.
