Job Type Part-timeDescriptionMental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a Veteran Peer Facilitator.The Veterans Peer Facilitator will conduct Veteran peer support groups in various locations in Nassau County. Position is anticipated to be funded for 12 months by the PFC Dwyer Peer Support Grant from the state of New York.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct Peer Support Groups in various locations in Nassau County.
- Conduct public speaking at veterans groups and other social service organizations to publicize services.
- Operate in a mobile capacity to engage with veteran's when needed
- Interact individually with veteran's to recommend referrals to other benefits and services.
- Respond to urgent situations as needed.
- Conduct documentation as required.
- Complete training as required.
- Perform other duties as requested.
RequirementsEducation & Experience:
- HS diploma required. Bachelors Degree / Masters Degree preferred.
- Must be a Veteran.
- Lived experience with trauma and recovery preferred.
- Prior mental health experience a plus.
Other Qualifications:
- Clean NYS Driver's License, must have own transportation.
- Microsoft Word, Outlook, Internet, Data entry. Must have home computer and internet access.
- Must have own cell phone. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
