As part of the Humane Society of Missouri, the Animal Medical Center of Mid-America is looking to hire a Veterinary Assistant to work in our AAHA-accredited veterinary clinic and surgery center. Experience in a veterinary clinic is preferred but not required.This position plays an integral role in assisting the veterinary staff and technicians in the clinical and surgical treatment of animals in the clinic. This individual should have animal handling and restraining experience, be extraordinary at establishing and maintaining strong working relationships, and always maintain a positive and professional public image. Excellent customer service, team skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment are necessary. Full-time employees work four 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, and the scheduling of days is flexible. (Saturday shifts are 8 hours.) Minimum starting pay is $16/hour. Additional compensation will be considered if experienced. The Veterinary Assistant will:
- Assist veterinarians in Fear Free animal restraint
- Maintain flow of clinic appointments, prepare estimates, invoices, take payments and reschedule appointments
- Prepare vaccines and medications for administration and medications for dispensing
- Perform client education
- Obtain patient samples, prepare them for testing and perform routine in house lab testing
- Understand use of medical & surgical equipment
- Prepare patients for treatment and/or surgery
- Maintain medical records
- Monitor anesthetic procedures
- Clean/disinfect and maintain medical and surgical equipment
