Overview:
As a Veterinary Technician, you will be integral to supporting the care of laboratory animals in a research setting. You will assist with surgical procedures, provide health assessments, and contribute to the overall wellness of animals used in research. This role demands precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with researchers and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sterile environments for surgical and experimental procedures.
- Administer anesthesia and monitor vital signs throughout procedures.
- Assist in post-operative care, ensuring animals recover safely.
- Conduct health assessments and treat common diseases or injuries.
- Collect diagnostic samples and perform lab tests as required.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of treatments, medications, and animal health data.
- Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal standards.
- Manage veterinary supplies, including medications and controlled substances, maintaining accurate records.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or related field, or equivalent industry certification.
- Experience working with animals in a clinical or research capacity, ideally 6 months or more.
- Veterinary Technician License preferred.
- AALAS certification at ALAT level is a plus.
- Ability to handle animals safely and effectively in a research setting.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
