The Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) invites applications for 2 Veterinary Technician Positions. Each position will report to the Department Head of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Licensed veterinary technicians are preferred. The primary duties and expertise desired are to help coordinate the veterinary skills (VS) laboratories, facilitate small animal surgery course laboratories and other laboratories appropriate to the skill set of the technician (e.g. anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, theriogenology, large animal surgery laboratories) in the LIU-CVM educational program as well as other responsibilities assigned by the Department Head. Other duties may involve assistance in the LIU-CVM Trap-Neuter-Release program, canine vaccine clinics and committee work. The VS program consists of six courses (Semester I through VI of the Veterinary curriculum program). The VT will assist in other clinical courses and programs throughout the first three years of the curriculum including laboratories associated with the basic surgery and small animal surgery course. Although the VT may have specific areas of responsibility, all VTs are expected to work as a team. The VT will also be responsible for communication and instruction of veterinary students.
Example of duties:
* Set up laboratory materials and supplies before class
* Break down the laboratory when class is finished and clean and replace equipment and supplies into their proper storage areas
* Assist with live animal laboratories with duties as instructed by faculty
* Assist with end of the semester OSCE's for student evaluation
* Assist with room set-up and instruction for student independent learning activities in the laboratory
* Assist with the development of teaching models
* Developing and maintaining the equipment and teaching materials for the laboratories
* Inventory and ordering supplies
Job Skills & Qualifications
* Preference will be given to those with CVT/LVT/RVT credentials with current license
* Work experience assisting with surgeries, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging and/or theriogenology
* Work experience and familiarity with the veterinary medical profession
* Good people skills
* On-the-fly problem solver
* Experience with teaching students will strengthen the position application, but is not essential
* Knowledge of:
o Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations.
* S/he/they will have the proven ability to promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness and will interact well with University administration, the veterinary education community, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
