With formal lectures, skills labs, and cage side training, we help all technicians expand their skills and knowledge in positions in the emergency service, intensive care unit, and specialty departments depending on their interests. A generous benefits package is available for full-time employees. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Be a crucial member of the healthcare team to ensure exceptional veterinary care for patients experiencing non-life- threatening medical emergencies
- Assist doctors with urgent care appointments
- Perform initial triage for urgent care visits including obtaining vital signs, presenting complaint, and pertinent medical history
- Obtain samples for diagnostic testing (i.e. blood, urine, feces)
- Advocate for patients, and clients, answer client's questions and address their concerns; readily demonstrate empathy for clients in stressful and emotionally driven moments
- Assist with urgent care procedures, including basic sedation and monitoring
- Ensure documentation is accurate and complete within the electronic medical record
- Willingness to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members
- These positions require some weekend and holiday shifts
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years' professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technician/assistant
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitude
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 35,000-sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI.
