Job Description:Position Summary:Managing the credit union's internal, risk-based audit program for the credit union
Primary Responsibilities and Duties: - Responsible for ongoing management of the credit union's internal audit program that assesses the risk management practices of the credit union and reviews the soundness, adequacy, effectiveness, and proper application of accounting, financial, and operational controls.
- Responsible for working closely with external auditors and state/federal credit union examiners to ensure the credit union follows prescribed policies and procedures, including requirements as set forth in laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Responsible for preparing and presenting reports regarding audit activities to the Supervisory Committee and the Board of Directors.
- Attends and reports as necessary at credit union internal committee meetings.
- Responsible for leading improvement efforts to align credit union processes and programs to strategic objectives.
- Responsible for developing and managing departmental hour and expense budgets.
- Responsible for managing, coaching, developing, and motivating internal audit staff to obtain the department's goals and objectives.
- Serve as a consultant/resource for the credit union regarding internal control questions/situations.
- Monitor the status of all audit/exam findings and related recommendations to ensure that identified corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Conduct and/or participate in special projects and investigations as requested.
Knowledge/Skills:- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret internal policies and procedures, industry and technical standards and best practices, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to effectively interact and present information orally and in written form to executive management, Supervisory Committee, Board of Directors, and public groups as necessary.
- Executive level experience leading the Internal Audit function for a medium to large asset sized company and/or financial institution, ($10B+ asset preferred).
- Proficiency in the application of internal audit theory, standards, and techniques, including GAAS.
- Proficiency in accounting principles and techniques, including GAAP.
- Knowledgeable in the laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to financial institutions.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Experience facilitating a complex set of audits in a regulated industry, ideally financial services.
- Experience using technology solutions to facilitate key audit functions.
- Experience with strategic leadership and risk assessment.
- Literacy in computer spreadsheet, database, and audit software.
- Experience with mentorship, internship, pipeline development for audit talent.
Minimum Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required. MBA or master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant audit experience required with 7+ years in a leadership role preferred.
- CPA or CIA certification preferred; additional professional certifications encouraged.
- Requires working knowledge of financial institution audit practices and systems acquired through a minimum of ten years of progressive internal audit experience, preferably in a financial institution or accounting firm setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education (e.g., post-graduate education, training, and certifications).
- Experience implementing audit technology solutions
