Location: This position is a hybrid role, with 3 days onsite at our Home Office in Chicago (River North), IL.

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary:

The VP of Financial Reporting & Accounting will serve as a key member of the leadership team and will be responsible for managing a team of finance & accounting professionals and overseeing the overall accounting functions of the company. This role will play a crucial role in driving financial strategy, improving operational efficiencies, forecasting spends and setting budgets, and securing our position as a leader in the industry. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and strategic financial management within the organization. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strategic mindset to contribute to Puttshack's overall success. This position is ideal for a strategic thinker with a proven track record in financial management within fast-paced, growth-oriented companies. This role will report directly to the CEO.

This is a hybrid position with 3 days onsite at Puttshack's headquarters in Chicago with the expectation of travel as needed to support business operations and expansion activities.

Position Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team to develop and implement the company's financial strategy in alignment with its overall business objectives. Lead financial planning, risk management, and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and implement business goals, projects, policies, procedures, methods, and controls and direct the general accounting activities, including maintenance of general ledgers, analysis of financial statements, and review of payroll records.
  • Prepare monthly and close-out reports as required by state and federal regulations, profit-loss statements, annual corporate tax, and special financial reports, studies, and analyses.
  • Develop and maintain the internal audit control system and administer the cash management and capital expenditure program.
  • Lead and manage the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Drive efficient, routine, and compliant close processes that allow for standardization and simplification.
  • Forecast revenues, expenditures, year-end balances, cash positions, and cash flows; plan, design, implement, and modify the data processing system; prepare and revise the fiscal operations procedure manual.
  • Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgeting and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting according to GAAP.
  • Ensure month-end and quarter-end reporting and reconciliation requirements are in accordance with company policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Lead the controllership aspects of ongoing ERP and other related system transformation across the business.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to improve overall operational and financial effectiveness. Implement and manage all financial-related systems to streamline operations and support scalable growth.
  • Work with operators to accurately report on individual P&L's and collaborate with leadership to determine KPIs to measure overall financial performance of venues.
  • Lead, develop, and oversee the finance & accounting department teams, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and any other finance-related departments, ensuring they align with the company's goals and objectives. Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting; CPA required.
  • MBA is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience as a Controller or similar leadership roles in a multi-unit organization.
  • A minimum of 12+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or executive leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles required.
  • Experience within a fast-growing, dynamic environment within the hospitality, entertainment, or technology sectors strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical capability to tell business stories leveraging financial data.
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in clear, simple, and logical terms.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis, mergers, and acquisitions, managing investor relations, and financial reporting.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex financial strategies to diverse stakeholders, including non-financial personnel.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to financial management.
  • Experience in navigating the complexities of a PE-backed company environment is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to travel as needed to support business needs.
  • This position must pass a post-offer background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical activities on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; frequent use of telephone/video conferencing and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means.
  • Some walking and lifting, up to 25 lbs. may be required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
