The Spirit of the Position:
The Vice President, Insurance and Claims Management, drives the company's strategy for managing our Insurance and claims practices to minimize physical and financial risk. As an international organization with expanding and diverse lines of business, it is important to ensure our insurance program meets the needs of our current business practices, and to work with insurance partners to support our growth in the most cost-efficient way possible. As a key influencer within the organization, the Vice President of Claims and Insurance, along with our operations and human resources teams, will be accountable for practices that minimize the company's risk. S/he navigates organizational reality to ensure that, as a people-first company, keeping employees, customers and clients safe is everyone's top priority.
Principal Job Duties:
Insurance
- Responsible for the analysis, design, procurement and management of our corporate insurance programs.
- Act as the primary point of contact related to all insurance programs on a day-to-day basis, including tracking performance, optimizing claims outcomes, and handle complex issues as appropriate.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure exposures are being identified and eliminated/minimized on an ongoing basis.
- Management of insurance programs and focus on strategic analysis and emerging risks across all areas of the organization, including operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.
- Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and metrics to measure risk exposure, identify emerging risks, inform decision-making and work with teams throughout organization to improve performance.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, including C-suite and other executives, to define risk management goals and priorities.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with business objectives, compliance with regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Lead and mentor a team of insurance and claims professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to drive performance and professional growth.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management processes and controls.
- Implement risk transfer strategies, including but not limited to, contract controls.
- Ensure the company has compliant Safety Health and Environmental policies and procedures and enhance as needed to minimize risk. Lead the development and implementation of a strategy to deliver required/mandatory training to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws.
- Create and implement processes for compliance with all state and federal laws in regions by updating forms, policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the company's DOT administrator/manager, Operational Audit and Operational Safety management teams to implement best practices relative to risk management.
Claims Management
- Act as the primary insurance point of contact on a day-to-day basis and handle complex issues as appropriate.
- Manage third party administrators of personal injury, workers compensation and property damage claims to close out existing open claims and to reduce reserves to lowest possible level.
- Lead the implementation and use of KPIs and other analytics to track and trend risk, as well as implement improved practices.
- Evaluate current practices for processing/administering claims, and innovate, strategize and implement practices for ongoing, continuous improvement to reduce frequency of incidents, issues and claims.
- File claims for EPLI as requested by legal team.
- Contract Review per request of client/legal.
- Provide insurance estimates for new/expanded areas of business.
- Oversee monthly insurance reserves for GL, GKL, WC, and Auto.
- Manage relationship with insurance brokers to stay abreast of market trends and implement risk management strategies across all insurance programs.
- Oversee TPA team and request changes as needed.
- Liaise between LAZ operational staff and broker/carrier/third-party administrator on general liability and auto coverage and claim issues as needed.
- Work closely with the Legal, Finance, Development, and Operations in development and/or review of revised language of various contracts, update insurance costs and maintain a clear understanding of the relevance of those provisions.
- Report to Partners and senior leadership on issues related to insurance renewals, coverage changes, risk and claims, as necessary.
- Participate in due diligence for M&A as requested.
- Provide timely and appropriate legal advice on issues involving coverage analysis under LAZ's insurance policies.
- Provide annual insurance budget and business plan, along with tracking project insurance costs.
- Manage claims processing team and establish improvements.
- Actively participate with local, state, and national agencies and resources to stay abreast of the latest technologies processes and regulations.
Requirements:
Travel
- Based on business needs but anticipate up to 15%.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree in occupational safety, operational risk or MBA preferred.
Experience
- Experience with Corporate insurance programs in commercial insurance procurement, underwriting, or corporate risk management, preferably within a team supporting a large, national organization.
- Corporate insurance and claims management experience with GL, Auto, GKL, Property, and Worker Compensation claims and coverages within a large national organization.
- Managing procurement of insurance programs across a large national organization.
- Strong knowledge of insurance carriers, brokerage resources and vendors support partners on a national or global basis.
- Risk management and mitigation experience preferred.
