Join The Doe Fund on our mission to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and criminal recidivism by providing holistic services, housing and work opportunities to the under-served populations including the formerly homeless and incarcerated, disconnected youth, veterans, and people living with AIDS. Our flagship transitional work program-- Ready, Willing & Able-- integrates paid work, occupational training, and holistic supportive services to facilitate an individual's return to mainstream society. Our portfolio of permanent affordable and supportive housing provides housing stability and additional supports to low-income New Yorkers. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $76 million and a full-time staff of 500+, many of whom are graduates of our programs.The Doe Fund is in search of a Vice President of Housing Placement Services (VP of HPS). This is a newly created position and the organization is looking for an experienced leader who is innovative and a team builder. The ideal candidate should also be a team player that can work well with and in collaboration with other departments. The VP of HPS will have direct oversight of the organizational housing placement services and all its staff. The VP of HPS will report to the Senior Vice President of Programs.The VP of HPS will have wide latitude for decision making that aligns with The Doe Fund's mission and goals in managing the day-to-day operations of the organization's housing placement services. The Ideal Candidate:
  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, Masters preferred.
  • At least 4 years work experience involving placement of individuals experiencing homelessness into permanent housing. As least 2 of those years should have been in a supervisory capacity. Experience working with any of the following populations would be a plus: incarcerated or formerly incarcerated, substance abuse, mental health, person's living with AIDS or supportive housing.
  • Well-versed in NYC housing programs and housing regulations
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Adept at Public Speaking.
  • Commitment to The Doe Fund's mission.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft based programs: email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Initially, together with the Senior Vice President of Programs, building out and develop the housing department, and then engage in continuous performance improvement
  • Supervises 2 managers, 1 Housing Specialist and indirectly has responsibility for 4 additional housing staff across its 3 transitional housing facilities
  • Leverage existing relationships with real estate agents, brokers and and/or property owners for The Doe Fund as well as with third party management companies that represent The Doe Fund
  • Oversee negotiation of lease agreements with landlords and/or real estate management companies as well as with third party management companies that represent The Doe Fund
  • Organize and coordinate the connecting of special populations with housing opportunities
  • Oversee the completion and submission of subsidy applications: CityFHEPS, SOTA, Section 8 and Supportive Housing applications such as 2010e
  • Utilizes internal metrics and DHS CARES in management of housing program
  • Organize and generate reports on program outcomes
  • Engage in program evaluation and performance improvement
  • Organize and coordinate client services to include apartment viewings/inspections and move outs
  • Ensure that all clients are registered in NYC Housing Connect
  • Coordinate with affordable and supportive housing staff if we have a client that is eligible for one of our supportive housing programs
  • Engage in crisis management as needed
  • Submit weekly reports to DHS
  • Perform other duties as assigned
