POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a visionary, strategic, and data-driven Vice President of Member Relations to lead our membership growth and engagement initiatives during an exciting period of transformation in the energy sector. A passion for the organizations vision to empower its community of energy professionals to ensure a more connected, sustainable, and equitable energy future for everyone is a must.

As VP of Membership Relations, you'll lead the evolution of our membership department and strategies. You'll envision and implement new approaches for member acquisition, engagement, and retention that go beyond traditional association models. You'll build and lead a high-performing team structured around emerging member needs while using insights to spark innovative membership solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a background in the energy sector, the ability to build and nurture strong relationships with the member community, and bring strong business development experience.

KEY OUTCOMES FOR THE FIRST 12 MONTHS

  • Design and implement an innovative member-engagement model for achieving membership growth, retention, and optimal member satisfaction.
  • Establish clear KPIs and success metrics that align membership department activities with organizational objectives and member value.
  • Develop and lead the successful roll-out of the member reactivation strategy, including an engagement incentive program.
  • Conduct an in-depth analysis of membership data to uncover insights about who our organizational champions are, providing recommendations to support the development of an impactful ambassador program.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with at least 3 key industry organizations to expand membership reach and value.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Membership Strategy & Growth:

  • Oversee the full sales cycle for group and individual memberships.
  • Spot opportunities to reinvent membership offerings that anticipate future industry shifts.
  • Lead strategic membership development initiatives to drive revenue growth and diverse membership expansion.
  • Drive new member acquisition strategies to increase total membership roster.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with the Content Development team to create compelling membership value propositions.

Member Engagement & Retention:

  • Direct member engagement initiatives to maintain and improve retention rates.
  • Lead the development and execution of member onboarding and activation strategies.
  • Foster deep membership relationships that drive value creation and enhance member experiences.
  • Optimize member participation levels and points usage based on member needs.
  • Coordinate with Chapter Committees to ensure aligned engagement strategies.
  • Spearhead the member ambassador program to cultivate organizational champions.
  • Oversee the annual conference sponsor and exhibitor strategy and execution.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Build and lead a high-performing membership team through effective coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Set clear priorities and manage team workflows to ensure successful delivery of membership initiatives.
  • Foster a “member-obsessed” culture that emphasizes exceptional service and member satisfaction.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Education, Content, and Chapter teams to align objectives.
  • Lead change management initiatives to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.

Reporting & Evaluation:

  • Generate and analyze monthly membership reports, including revenue performance against goals, member engagement rates, and diversity and inclusion metrics.
  • Track and evaluate membership engagement patterns to provide data-driven insights that inform marketing strategies, and member needs analysis.
  • Create new ways to measure success when traditional metrics don't tell the full story.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Sustainability mindset with a demonstrated passion and commitment to shaping the energy transition and developing the next generation of clean energy workforce.
  • Proven track record in client/member management and business development, with experience selling services in a B2B environment.
  • Natural ability to navigate uncertainty and create innovative solutions.
  • Confident, self-aware, and emotionally intelligent, demonstrating a strong executive presence.
  • Strong organizational skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to weave data insights into compelling stories that engage members and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills in developing and mentoring talent.
  • Advanced understanding of managing team workflows to achieve successful outcomes.

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's degree or higher in business, nonprofit management, or energy-related fields is preferred, although equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of the degree. 10 years minimum experience in the energy and/or nonprofit sector and at least 4 years of leadership and supervisory experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position can be located anywhere in the continental United States, and work may be completed remotely. Candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States. Air travel may be required 2 to 4 times annually to support in-person events. The organization will work with the successful candidate to identify and supply all appropriate resources necessary to complete assigned tasks.

SALARY RANGE (Based on Experience and Qualifications)
