About The Job: The Vice President of Operations plays a pivotal role in leading and managing all aspects of a divisional operating area within the company. Oversees multiple aggregate sites and Hot Mix Asphalt operations ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires strategic thinking, operational expertise, and a strong focus on safety, quality, and profitability. Works closely with the Division President and peers to improve the overall performance of the division to achieve our durable growth goals and while supporting an environment of effective teamwork and collaboration. Ensures that all assigned plants and are in alignment with the Vulcan Way of Operating (VWO) and are in compliance with all Company and Division SHE policies and procedures as well as governmental rules and regulations. Develops and implements the operations strategy for assigned area including production, P&L, quality control, and long-term business planning. What You'll Do:
- Provides the vision and strategic guidance in conjunction with the pillars of the Vulcan Way of Operating, develop our people, win our customers and utilize our assets, to lead the activities of operations in assigned geographic area within a division.
- Ensures that all assigned plants are in full compliance with all Company and Division Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures and sites meet or exceed Company and Division SHE goals and objectives, as well as remaining governmental rules and regulations.
- Responsible for improving the operating performance of through effective planning, goal setting, coaching, and feedback on an ongoing basis; as well as encouraging employee development, teamwork, and two-way communication.
- Works collaboratively with divisional peers and President to improve the overall performance of the division while supporting an environment of effective teamwork and collaboration. Collaborates with the sales team in addressing customer relations and service requirements to ensure operations meets or exceeds customer expectations.
- Develops and fosters a culture that is flexible and focused on satisfying customer needs and solving problems in support of the strategic and tactical objectives of Vulcan.
- Ensures that materials mined are processed in accordance with Company and Region specifications and quality standards.
- Works closely with technical support functions such as quality control, mining and geology on engineering support for their areas of responsibilities.
- Drives effective, proactive maintenance programs to ensure equipment and sites follow progressive preventive maintenance programs and sites are modernized and properly serviced.
- Works on strategies and programs to reduce costs and improve productivity and efficiency through capital and people.
- Manages and directs automation and process improvement goals and objectives for assigned plants to ensure that productivity and efficiency goals and objectives are met.
- Leads and directs the annual operating and capital budget process for their assigned area. Provides oversight to capital projects are completed accordance with the AFE and cost projections.
- Participates in divisional short- and long-range business planning.
- Oversees the development of short and long-term plant engineering plans to ensure site locations have modern equipment to support Division goals and objectives. May participate in Company operations/engineering cross-functional task teams.
- Responsible for ensuring that all permits and reclamation plans are current and the locations are in compliance. Takes appropriate steps, in conjunction with division support teams, to secure new permits to expand Company mining operations at assigned plants. Attends government and community meetings in securing new or modification of mining permits.
- Oversees comprehensive training and process improvement activities to provide supervisor and employee with tools to incorporate process improvements into day-to-day job duties.
- Oversees proactive and progressive employee relations activities at assigned plants to maintain a high level of employee satisfaction with open communication.
- In cases where the plant is organized by a labor union, individual may participate in collective bargaining activities (grievance administration and contract negotiations); Orientation to and leadership role with a Union-Free workforce is expected.
- Leads leaders; delivers results through managing people in addition to managing financial and operating decisions; integrates business plans with talent plans and makes informed, thoughtful personnel decisions in a timely manner. Develops department staff to ensure effective succession.
- Identification of new business opportunities in the area. Participates in the review of potential acquisitions as a member of due diligence team to review operations of new acquisitions.
- Champions the utilization and adoption of new technologies and process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs to support long-term sustainability and growth.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.

- May be required occasionally to use protective gear and to take other precautions when in or near a mining/construction site.
- Local and regional travel by automobile and periodic need to travel by airline.

Qualifications Skills You'll Need: Education: BA/BS degree in Engineering or Business Administration or an equivalent combination of training and work experience is preferred. Experience: 10 plus years of experience in construction materials operations management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
