Summary:
The Vice President of Software Engineering/Development is a strategic technology leader responsible for directing and evolving multiple software development teams organized by technical specialization and expertise. This executive position oversees the entire software development organization, drives technical innovation, and aligns development capabilities with business objectives. The role requires exceptional leadership skills to manage diverse teams of specialists while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Primary Job Functions:
- Be responsible for resource allocation to teams, for projects in a fast-paced environment
- Drive technical excellence through establishment and enforcement of development standards, architectural principles, and best practices
- Build and maintain high-performing teams organized by technical specialization, including recruitment, development, and retention strategies
- Lead technical innovation initiatives and drive adoption of emerging technologies where appropriate
- Oversee development and execution of technical road maps aligned with business objectives
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators for development teams and individual contributors
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including C-level executives, business partners, and technical leaders
- Ensure effective cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing between specialized groups
- Oversee technical debt management and modernization
- Manage departmental budget and resource allocation
- Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and technical excellence
- Must be able to read code, and be able to perform PR reviews
- Make employment decisions and/or recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.
- Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
- Communicate company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, regular individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.

Job Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field– or equivalent experience
Experience:
- 15+ years of progressive software development experience
- 10+ years of technology leadership experience managing large development organizations
- Proven track record of building and leading high-performing technical teams
- Deep understanding of modern software development practices, architectures, and technologies
- Strong technical background with hands-on development experience
- Experience with multiple development methodologies (Agile, DevOps, etc.)
- Excellence in strategic planning and execution
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills
