Job Description Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Tax of BWS, the role of Vice-President, Tax will assist in supporting the growth of BNRE's business through numerous tax work streams. BWS continues to experience significant growth in its insurance business and anticipates future growth, including new transactions and acquisitions. The position will work closely with other tax professionals within Brookfield as well as the legal, finance and investment groups within BNRE. The Vice-President, Tax will assist the Senior Vice President, Tax with tax matters involving BWS's primary US operating subsidiaries (AEL, American National, and Argo) as well as BWS corporate subsidiaries and investments. The Vice-President, Tax will be a key resource in managing and reviewing tax compliance, tax reporting, and tax planning workstreams in BWS' US operations. The Vice-President, Tax will lead initiatives related to income tax, BEAT, CAMT, and partnership-related tax issues. This role also offers the opportunity to participate in supporting the broader BWS tax group on M&A transactions, internal restructurings and financings, and in-bound tax issues. Finally, the Vice-President, Tax will support the tax teams at the US operating subsidiaries with tax technical issues that arise in their day-to-day business operations.   • Manage tax compliance and tax reporting work streams across BWS' US operations, including insurance companies, investment structures, partnerships, and corporate holding entities.
  • Support existing tax compliance and tax reporting teams at BWS US operating subsidiaries as a tax technical resource.
  • Analyze complex transactions and investments for tax compliance and tax reporting implications.
  • Oversee large tax compliance engagements with external service providers.
  • Work with the Senior Vice President, Tax on due diligence, transaction structuring, and internal restructurings on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Develop a robust tax forecasting process across BWS' US operations.
  • Monitor ongoing compliance and integrity of tax structures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • At least 8 years of tax experience with an accounting firm, insurance company, private equity firm, or other large financial institution.
  • Experience managing complex compliance, tax accounting, and tax reporting projects.
  • Experience with US insurance tax issues is an asset.
  • Experience with US in-bound investment and transaction structuring is an asset.
  • CPA designation.
  • Masters in Tax is an asset.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability and initiative, with independent thinking and action.
  • Excellent written and oral communication business skills.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to operate independently.
