Announcement Open Until Tuesday December 31, 2024, at 5pmGrade 10, Minimum Wage $18.80 per hour*This is a grant funded position.Dept/Div: Solicitor General/N/A--- FLSA Status: Non-ExemptGeneral Definition of WorkPerforms intermediate skilled human support work assisting victims and witnesses, responding to inquiries, reviewing incidents and reports, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Victim Witness Coordinator. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential FunctionsInforms victims and witnesses of their rights according to State statute; notifies victims and witnesses of court proceedings; explains the legal process and intricacies to victims and witnesses; maintains confidentiality.Coordinates court appearance dates and case status with crime victims by telephone, in person or via written communication; schedules pre-trial interviews; accompanies victims and their families to court hearings.Interviews and obtains necessary background information on crimes committed; refers victims and witnesses to appropriate agencies and assists in obtaining services; assists with the completion of applicable forms.Assists with locating victims, witnesses or legal guardian of victims and witnesses to criminal cases when subpoenas cannot be served; performs release when trials are canceled or rescheduled.Assists with education and applications for entitled victim compensation programs; processes witness appearance payments.Documents services provided by writing progress reports and completing other documentation as required by agency, accreditation, and ethical standards.Provides crisis intervention to victims and witnesses of crime and assists crime victims in the temporary protective order process. Provides community education programs and training as needed in areas such as domestic violence and sexual assault. Develops and maintains office filing and, records systems; maintains confidential files.Performs administrative support functions and tasks as necessary or required.Maintains a positive relationship with community resources so that victims of crime can be referred to the appropriate organizations.Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of interviewing techniques and human behavior; general knowledge of the practices and techniques involved in counseling and crisis intervention; general knowledge of modern principles and practices of the criminal justice system; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare concise written reports; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court officials, State and local law enforcement officials, associates and the general public.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree with coursework in criminal justice, sociology, or related field and considerable experience in social work or in the criminal justice system, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical RequirementsThis work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).Special RequirementsCompletion of Crime Victims' Compensation training within six months of hire.Possession of Security and Integrity Certification within ninety (90) days of hireFavorable background history as determined by review of Local, State and Federal records.Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).Last Revised: 1/31/2017
