The Virtual Learning Coordinator's duties include facilitating, coordinating, and daily management of the museum's virtual visit program. Actively engage visitors of all ages in discussion & dialogue in a virtual environment; recruits and coaches volunteers in conducting presentations and discussions online. Requires familiarity with object-based teaching, responsible for building the institution's capacity to fulfil strategic priorities, Education unit teaching philosophy and school visit learning objectives. Anti-bias and anti-racist teaching must be promoted in the facilitation of active learning experiences that encourage independent critical thinking, making connections, and interacting with peers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies or Asian American Studies preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in developing museum education programs, or the equivalent in related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic school district policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of object-based teaching and creating learner-centered programs.
  • Professional email and phone manner is essential.
  • Must be able to provide courteous and effective service to co-workers, volunteers, school audiences, corporate audiences, and the general public.
  • Prior non-profit, museum experience and working with volunteers is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Japanese American history, culture and community is a plus; however, sensitivity to issues of diversity and ethnicity is essential.
  • Computer literate and experienced with MS Office, Gmail, and Google Calendar. Comfort with and strong knowledge of various video communication programs such as Zoom and Google Meet are essential.
