DescriptionLuther College is seeking an instructor for a sabbatical replacement position in our Theatre program for the spring semester beginning in February 2025. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Design (Generalist) will provide costume designs for a production, teach a course in beginner level costume and scenic design, and teach a course in pre-20th century theatre history. Although preference is given to candidates who can fill all responsibilities, we will consider separating the position with an adjunct in design (course in design and costume designer for a production) and an adjunct in theatre history, or by production costume designer and instructor for courses. Candidates should hold an MFA in Theatre and/or Design, an MA in Theatre, or have comparable professional experience. A background in costume technology rooted in professional theatre and dance practices or experience in teaching pre-20th century theatre history is required. The successful candidate will communicate knowledge of and interest in teaching at Luther College. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and communicate a strong desire to work with undergraduates of all experience levels. Luther College is located in rural Northeast Iowa, a regional hub for outdoor recreation, two nationally recognized healthcare systems, top ranked schools, business, agriculture, specialty retail, dining and tourism. Major Midwest metropolitan areas within a three-hour driving distance include Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; and Madison, WI. The current salary range for assistant professors with 0-5 years of experience is $26,000-$29,000 (three-course spring semester salary); placement on scale is dependent on credentials and applicable experience. Adjunct faculty salary is on a per credit basis dependent on credentials and experience.
