Visitor Center Tour Guide
The Town of Concord is seeking part-time staff to provide Tour Services through our Visitor Center. Tour Guides greet and welcome all guests and visitors, provide walking tours, provide insightful information on sites of interest. Various shifts available 7 days a week. Hours are scheduled as needed and could range from 1-19/week.
Starting pay rate: $22.00/hour. This position fills on an as-needed basis and hiring is rolling. If you don't hear back after applying, it's likely we're currently at capacity. However, we keep all resumes on file for future openings. Thank you for your patience.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Tourism and Visitor Services Manager, greets and welcomes all guests and visitors and provides excellent customer service. Tour guides are considered Concord's most educated historians and ambassadors; often working for several hours at a time leading walking tours through historic Concord. Tour guides will be asked to do both walking tours and bus tours, lasting from 1-3 hours each for groups of 2-50. Guides are required to have a broad and extensive knowledge of Colonial/Revolutionary history and as well as Concord's local literary history. Guides must continuously develop their knowledge of tourist sites through reading materials and communicating with point of interest site officials. Responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Greets and welcomes all visitors and provides them with general information regarding the Town of Concord and historical sites of interest.
* Promotes the 'tour experience' and encourages participation to those that visit or call the Center.
* Registers individuals and groups for tours; processes payments for services booked.
* Maintains compliance for self and guests of all current policies regarding health and safety.
* Maintains consistent schedules by ensuring tours remain within the advertised time blocks.
* Assures that guests remain safe while on a tour by encouraging water and breaks, as necessary.
* Consistently communicates with Visitor Center management regarding facility needs or concerns.
* Alerts Supervisor to trends in visitor requests, participant inquiries, and tourist/resident comments or suggestions.
* Regular attendance at the workplace is required.
* Flexibility to work 7 days per week.
* May be asked to write tour scripts or other collateral as need for marketing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
* High school diploma or equivalent, plus six months of office/administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Prior experience running historic group tours, preferred.
* Registered and Licensed Tour Guide Certification for the Town of Concord is required (which includes enrollment in the Town's Tour Guide Class:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public; ability to effectively deal with customers and citizens in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
* Thorough working knowledge of the Concord community including, but not limited to: historical locations, points of interest, literary sites, local businesses and other tourist attractions. Must keep current regarding information involving all points of interest within Concord.
* Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to deal effectively with interruptions is essential.
* Excellent Customer Service is expected.
* Excellent Public Speaking skills are needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to work in a primarily outdoor environment while walking and talking for at least two hours at a time and a distance of up to 2 miles. Must be able to work in all weather conditions including rain and extreme heat. To ensure that all guests are able to hear the tour information, guides must be able to project their voices to large audiences. Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.
Operates computer, iPad, calculator, telephone, copier, and all other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
