Description JOB SUMMARYThe Volunteer Coordinator assists the Director of Volunteer Services in all aspects of volunteer program administration for the Dallas Zoo.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES•Works positively and cooperatively with a diverse group of volunteers and all Zoo departments to support the mission of the Dallas Zoo.•Provide clerical, administrative, and logistical support to Director of Volunteer Services and department.•Assist with all aspects of volunteer program administration- recruiting; initial screening of applicants; coordination; scheduling; preparation and maintenance of training and recruitment materials.•Coordinate and conduct initial interviews and onboarding for new volunteers.•Assist with all aspects of the college internship program coordination - interviewing, onboarding, scheduling professional development sessions, coordinating welcome & closing lunch programs.•Recruit and schedule volunteers for projects and assignments as requested.•Maintain volunteer database.•Coordinate volunteer background checks, tuberculosis screenings and readings.•Assist with all aspects of volunteer recognition and coordination of meetings and the annual party.•Purchase and transport supplies and refreshments and assist with physical set up and clean-up for all volunteer recognition, onboarding, and training events.•Provide on-site supervision for special event volunteers, group volunteers (including Zoo Lights & Safari Nights volunteers, corporate groups, community groups, school groups, etc.), special project volunteers and interns.•Produce volunteer email updates. Assist volunteer council with their quarterly newsletter. •Prepare and distribute volunteer information/applications and maintain inventory of these materials.•Perform routine clerical tasks such as filing, typing, copying and mailing.•Maintain stock of uniforms, office supplies and other necessities.•Provide volunteer support for special events, group and ambassador volunteers.•Answer telephones and provide volunteer information to the public.•Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Volunteer Services.QUALIFICATIONS•H.S. Diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.•Experience supervising adults and/or children in a group atmosphere.•Experience recruiting, coordinating and retaining volunteers (preferred).•Software skills - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Publisher) and volunteer tracking software.•Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.•Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, as necessary to meet deadlines and department goals.WORK ENVIRONMENT•Regularly works irregular hours, including weekends and evenings. May have a regular schedule that includes Saturday/Sunday.•Routinely runs errands off-site; must have access to reliable transportation.•Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. This may involve some lifting, carrying, moving, pushing, and/or pulling of objects/materials of up to 50 pounds. Tasks may also involve significant periods of standing or walking outside during events, as well as during event set-up or break-down times. •Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.•Must have a valid driver's license (to operate Zoo vehicles) with reliable transportation.
