The Vice President, Facilities, Design and Construction must lead the vision of From Healthcare to Health by forging strong relationships with the academic enterprise to create an overall entity unparalleled in the United States today.The VP Facilities, Design and Construction is the executive leader of all Facilities Management, Real Estate, Facilities Design and Construction for UCHealth. They will demonstrate knowledge of national Patient Safety Standards and actively participate in system-wide initiatives to improve and ensure a safe healthcare environment, contributing to the development of best practices and compliance with regulatory requirements. The position works closely with the executive management team to plan for and execute market-driven expansions, renovations, and capital construction projects on all UCHealth Campuses. The VP Facilities, Design and Construction also has significant interaction with the Audit and Finance Committees of the Board of Directors, presenting budget and schedule status of projects and assists the Chief Financial Officer with securing funding for new projects.

Achieving the vision.Success in the VP Facilities, Design and Construction position will be measured by the following goals:
- Delivers successful service to our internal and external customers by adhering to critical success standards: demonstrating accountability and commitment to quality and safety standards; taking ownership in the financial success of the hospital with appropriate resource use and management; providing exceptional customer service; and exerting effort to ensure a positive work environment that demonstrates dedication to UCHealth's mission, vision and values;
- Oversees renovations and new construction for all UCHealth campuses and works closely with system and regional hospital executives to execute project initiatives, ensuring growth in an efficient and effective manner to meet patient needs;
- Directs the development and preparation of short-term and long-range capital plans and budgets based upon system strategic directions, goals, and growth objectives. Utilizes physical resources of the system to its fullest potential;
- Oversees and directs all capital expenditures for construction and renovation of UCHealth facilities, infrastructure and real property, consistent with the planning and design goals and standards of UCHealth;
- Provides oversite and management of a vast real estate portfolio, consisting of owned and leased properties throughout Colorado, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and municipal laws and regulations and a facilities compliance requirement, and drives progress in the efficient use of space;
- Ensures the delivery of quality customer focused services that include a large employee group with wide ranging educational and skill levels including departments such as Facilities Management and Design and Construction throughout the UCHealth;
- Manages and approves design and construction processes to ensure implementation of the UCHealth requirements. This includes participation in long-range planning activities, selection of design/construction teams, interface with hospital staff and administration on design/construction issues, monitoring the design and construction phases, and acting as the lead UCHealth executive during construction;
- Works in cooperation with UCHealth Finance and Internal Audit in establishment of systems to monitor project performance against budget authorization, project schedules and established quality control standards. This includes identifying variances and working with the Design and Construction staff at the individual campuses to develop and implement system-wide consistent practices to correct inefficient operations;
- Directs the development and implementation of design, construction, and facility standards to ensure projects are executed at appropriate levels of quality, are compatible with the UCHealth mission and vision, and are effectively commissioned prior to occupancy;
- Actively participates in professional organizations and associations to keep knowledgeable and current on health care issues and trends. Will actively lead and participate in continuing education programs internally;
- Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences, and seminars; attends and updates mandatory training;
- Understands and demonstrates knowledge of national Patient Safety Standards and participates in system-wide activities and initiatives to improve and ensure a safe environment;
- Develops and maintains quality and performance improvement, patient safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives. Assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission (JC) accreditation and other internal and external regulatory/accreditation standards including the code of conduct.

- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Master's degree in appropriate field preferred
- 10-15 plus years of experience in capital planning and project management, with an emphasis in healthcare environment.
- Experience with overseeing renovation and construction programs in excess of $250,000,000 in a large, complex healthcare facility setting.
- Experience in overseeing planning, design and construction projects, and advanced knowledge of the design and construction industry and standard practices.
