Position: VtSBDC Area Business AdvisorVSC Grade: 13 Non-Bargaining UnitFLSA: ExemptLocation: Serving Windham County Vermont, with remote work, mobile and shared office spaceSupervision:General supervision is received from the State Director of the Vermont Small Business Development Center Program.Responsibilities: To provide one-to-one, no fee, confidential advising and educational workshops to established small business owners and those considering launching a new business venture in targeted client segments and markets consistent with the VtSBDC strategic plan. • Provide business advising in a manner to achieve the performance objectives of funders and stakeholders.• Assist clients with the steps necessary to prepare for financing needs, using financial spreadsheets to build projections and associated assumptions.• Build and maintain a portfolio of clients with potential for impact.• Create a welcoming environment for engagement and put clients at ease through the use of effective advising approaches.• Stay up to date with small business trends, in order to share successful business practices with clients.• Perform public relations activities to promote and market the services available through VtSBDC.• Use available technology to conduct remote advising and training.• Respond to inquiries by providing information, researching and locating resources to assist with a wide range of business related issues and concerns.• Maintain records and produce reports relative to program activities in accordance with required client management systems.• Stay abreast of federal, state and regional economic development initiatives and support programs. Help clients best utilize these programs as well as strategic private sector partners. • Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations that expand on VtSBDC services in alignment with the strategic plan.• Identify needs, plan, promote and conduct training programs.• Participate on advisor calls, staff meetings, committees and other related duties as requested by the State Director.Qualifications:MBA preferred. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or other appropriate discipline plus five to seven years business experience, or combination of education and experience.• Broad-based knowledge and experience in business and industry.• Experience planning and delivering business training programs.• Strong oral and written communication, presentation skills, planning, organizational and project management skills.• Ability to work effectively with and represent the program to the business community, and a wide range of individuals within the state and region.• Demonstrate understanding of and ability to articulate industries driving the Vermont economy.• Valid Vermont driver's license required.• Work outside of regular business hours may be expected.This general outline illustrates the type of work which characterizes the job classification.
